A mole is more likely to be abnormal if:
One-half of the mole does not match the other half (i.e. it is asymmetric)
The edge (border) of the mole is jagged or irregular
More than one color is present in the mole
It is larger than 1/4 inch in diameter (the size of a pencil eraser)
Remember, thin melanomas(a form of skin cancer) are curable! Get to know your skin and moles well. If changes occur, report them to your physician and if he/she thinks it is necessary, a biopsy can be done to detect the melanoma early while it is curable. Often this can be done by surgery alone.
